For as long as I have been researching my family tree, my Great-Grandfather, Samuel Lawrence Stallard, has proven to be an elusive figure. No one really seemed to know too much about him or what happened to him. When my grandfaher, Wade Hampton Stallard, was a young child, Samuel left the family and not much was known of his whereabouts after that. My grandfather was left to be raised by his mother, Ollie Mae. And for a period of time they lived with her father, Wade Hampton Roberts.
A few years ago I was able to find him listed in The Directory of Deceased American Physicians. While this listing provided very minimal information, it did establish a few unknown facts. One was that he died at a very early age of injuries sustained in a car accident in New York state, he was only 38 years old. Another is that, over a very short few years, he had registered for his medical license in many different places such as: Coronado, CA; Newport News, VA; and New Jersey among others. This man really travelled around. Though, for the longest time, this was all the information that I had.
In the past couple of weeks I found that there were a bunch of new documents made available on Ancestry.com's website. As I was doing my searches for the usual suspects, I happened upon a bunch of ship passenger lists from New York in the early 1920's. As it turns out, Samuel really got around more than I had realized. These documents listed Samuel as being the ship's dcotor on at least 10 voyages which travelled as far as South America and Western Europe. This would explain his whereabouts around the year 1920 as I've been looking for a census image with his name for some time.
I had also heard that he may have re-married at some point. Well, lo and behold, these documents proved that. On March 22, 1920, Samuel was listed as a passenger on the SS Iroquois arriving at the port of New York with his wife Clara. That's interesting, I thought. So I did a search for Clara Stallard and came up with not only a census image from 1930 but also a Passenger List from 1932 listing her and a son named Robert L. Stallard. WOW, I thought, this is something that surely NO ONE knew about (or it was a closely guarded family secret): my grandfather had a half brother. What was also really interesting about this is that they lived in Paterson, NJ about 10 miles north of Orange, NJ, where my grandmother Lillian Marks (and my gradfather's future wife) grew up. What a small world, huh?
After doing further searches I was able to establish that both Robert and Clara had passed away in the early 1980's in New Haven, CT. Robert had a wife named Barbara, but that is that where trail ends. If you think you might know some more information about this branch, please contact me through the "Contact Us" link at the top of the page.

Greetings!
My name is Mark Stallard and I'd like to welcome you to our family website. Among the things you will find on this site are some random news-bits about the goings-on in our family; a photo gallery featuring pictures of us, our family and friends doing what we do; and the key portion of this website which is my geneaology research contained in our family tree. This family tree primarily shows my Stallard lineage traced to Walter Stallard The Emigrant of Virginia, but also features some other prominent names in my family such as Roberts, Marks and Schamne. Plus, we also feature some of my wife's notable families such as DiIenno, DeLillio, and Cuocolo.
Now, let me introduce you to our family (if you don't know them already). First, there is my wife, Carolyn. She is a native-Delawarean, a 3rd generation Italian-American (on both sides!), and we married on October 31st, 1996 (yes, Halloween) in Las Vegas (with an Elvis impersonator...at The Graceland Wedding Chapel...yeah, we're kooky like that). Then 2 years later, in 1998, our daughter Chloe was born. She is truly the light of our lives. We're not really sure what Chloe will be when (if) she grows up, but she is a very creative individual who can draw really well and, whether she knows it or not, could probably be a pretty decent actress. Ultimately, it's her creative side that never ceases to amaze us or those around her. I think she's going to do amazing things.
